FACT: Women in Magic Always Existed
Yes, you read that right.
Not assistants. Not sidekicks. Magicians.
And I can prove it.
🎩✨ My very first book, The Power of Magical Women, will be released on November 1st — in both paperback and hardcover (6”x9”). To say I’m thrilled would be an understatement. The reaction so far has been electric. People are surprised. Curious. Even shocked. Women in Magic exist and have aways existed.
But that leads to the question I explore right from page one:
👉 If women have always existed as powerful lead magicians, why does my book surprise people?
🕰️ The Vanishing Act No One Talked About
Here’s the truth:
Women were written out of much of magic’s official history.
I’ve been a professional magician for over 35 years — and until 2020, I didn’t know that either. I honestly believed women magicians were rare, mythical creatures. (In fact, I quoted Nikola Arcane calling them “unicorns” in a past blog!)
But I was wrong.
Their stories were minimized, buried, and often ignored.
Magic’s history has long been described as a “man’s world.”
But that narrative is changing.
💥 A Celebration, Not a Checklist
First, an important note:
The women featured in my book are not a complete list.
There are countless more performing today — innovators, creators, stars — who also deserve the spotlight.
My goal is to ignite a conversation, not end it.
The foundation for this book comes from my five years of monthly “Magical Women” articles for VANISH International Magic Magazine. Seventy-plus profiles later, the collection has grown into a 360-page celebration filled with over 200 images.
For the women who weren’t included — I see you. There’s still more work to do.
✨ Behind the Curtain: The Making of the Book
This book has truly been a labor of love (and sometimes a bit of madness requiring handcuffs, chains and a straight-jacket).
Every story I uncovered, every photo I tracked down, every deep-dive interview — all of it taught me something new about the resilience and creativity of women in magic.
But let’s be real: publishing is its own kind of magic trick.
At first, I went the “safe” route: I signed with a New York literary agent from a respected agency. I thought, “I’ve made it!”
Then came the endless pitch writing… and the waiting.
It wasn’t the quick fix I’d hoped for.
Then came the real turning point.
My friend, magician, author and historian Margaret Steele (who’s featured in the book), encouraged me to take control — to publish independently and create the book I truly wanted.
With the help of Marianne Ward, an incredible editor who transformed my manuscript into a polished, professional story, I began to see my vision come alive. (Pro tip: if you’re writing your first book, find an editor who understands both your voice and the craft. It’s worth every penny.)
Next, Paul Romhany, the publisher and editor of VANISH International Magic Magazine, worked his magic with the design. The result? A visually stunning, elegant layout that perfectly complements the narrative.
I couldn’t be prouder of the finished product.
🔮 The Journey Continues…
Of course, not everything has gone smoothly.
Our Limited Signature Edition, 8.5” x 11” (yes, the big, beautiful one!) has been delayed. It will now be released in January 2026 — but trust me, it’ll be worth the wait.
For now, I’m counting down the days to November 1, 2025, when The Power of Magical Women officially takes the stage. Spoiler alert, there’s more to come about our online reveal launch party…
To those of you following my journey — thank you.
Your support has made this possible. It really does take a village (and maybe a fan or wand or both).
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes insights, and some magical surprises leading beyond the big reveal.
Stay tuned — and tell me in the comments:
💬 What would you like to know about the making of this book?
Let’s keep the conversation — and the magic — alive.
✨ Because women in magic have always existed. It’s time the world saw them.
